Mad Ride Rocks

April 1, 2007

Hanging RockI just finished the Melbourne Autumn Day (Mad) RIde organised by the Melbourne Biclycle Touring Club. The day was really well organised so a big congrats to the MBTC and all of the volunteers and riders who supported the event.

The road circuit around from Woodend->Lancefield->Woodend, was quite challenging, with quite a few decent hill climbs on both legs of the journey. Having previously only rided a 40km ride which was relatively flat, I found the going a little tough towards the end, but managed to hang in there. It helps to have your own personal fan club (wifeandkids.com) waiting at the finish line.

And, what a fantastic day! The weather was perfect despute early drizzle in Melbourne and the scenery–taking in hanging rock and surrounding Macedon Ranges –was just as good.

Here’s my ride stats:

Distance: 60.95 km
Ride Time: 2:45:30
Average Speed: 22.62 km/hr

I was really happy with my ride time and average speed, particularly when there was a number of challenging hills which had be back in low gears. Feeling sore and sorry at the moment, but in the end it was worth it.
