The Journey Continues
June 30, 2006
I received the results from my taekwondo grading last night … and I’m now officially a Second Dan black belt! Four and a half years of of blood, sweat and tears, but very rewarding. I’m also really starting to see the real benefits in terms of health and fitness. I’m at the lightest weight that I have been since I was 17 years old and discovered beer. The beer lost out in the end.
Shine on …
June 25, 2006My 85 y.o Grandma who lives alone in the U.K and missed out on most of my childhood, sent me this photo.
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Australia Goes Through To Final 16
June 23, 2006The Aussies deserve to go through to the next round of the World Cup. Australia controlled the tempo for most of the game and played attacking football. An inspired move to bring Brechiano on … he made a big impact in the last 20 minutes with the penetration and depth of his balls into the box. Guus for PM!! I don’t understand Croatia’s tactics. What were they thinking? They went defensive everytime they hit the front, despite Australia being less than convincing–and at times shaky–down back. And three yellow cards to the one player? … I’ve not seen that before!
Memorable Quotes — Lewis Carroll
June 23, 2006From Alice in Wonderland …
“Would you tell me which way I ought to walk from here?”
“That depends on where you want to get to”, said the cat.
“I don’t care where”, said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you walk,” said the cat.
“So long as I get somewhere”, said Alice as an explanation.
“Oh you’re bound to do that”, said the cat,
“if only you walk long enough.”
Geeks Anonymous
June 22, 2006My name is Daryl and I am a geek! :-
- I know what an RSS feed is.
I played dungeons and dragons in high school.
I know the difference between a ‘Flash’ website and ‘Flash Gordon’.
I read slashdot.
I have more than one email account.
I have my own domain name.
I know that the web is not just something a spider weaves.
I can fix 99.5% of all PC end-user probems by asking 2 questions:
- Is it plugged in?
- Have you tried turning it off and on again
- I’m not trying to make light of people with serious problems here — this meme has been festering since someone actually referred to me as a geek a couple of weeks back –and again yesterday!.I’ve never really thought of myself as a geek, but truth be told, I’ve probably been in denial! There, I’ve just come out of the closet, now I can just get on with being geeky.
