Ticket Off The Treadmill

October 14, 2005

Hugh Macleod, as usual–in his profound wisdom–is right on the mark with his latest post about the Global Microbrand

There are thousands of reasons why people write blogs. But it seems to me the biggest reason that drives the bloggers I read the most is, we’re all looking for our own personal global microbrand. That is the prize. That is the ticket off the treadmill. And I don’t think it’s a bad one to aim for.

Hugh has an uncanny knack of putting into words and articulating things that I often think about but find difficult to express. Thanks Hugh — inspirational!!

A blogger in the making

October 13, 2005

We (wifeandkids.com and I) had lunch with Dad the other day. Having recently decided to ‘retire’ Dad was quite reflective about things and we got onto the subject of family, and of his parents (both sadly passed-on). During this conversation he mentioned off the cuff that he should capture some of his memories in a journal. My eldest daughter Madelyn — who like most 8 year olds, has ‘big ears’ — piped up and said with exuberance … “Grandpa, you should start a blog!” I nearly fell off my chair. I have briefly explained what a blog is to Maddy, but it’s amazing how she picked up on the thread of discussion and immediately put it into a blog context. Now there’s definitely a future blogger in the making.

This little episode got me thinking — althought this was not my original intention — amongst other things, a blog is a great way to diarise your life and keep a lasting record of your thoughts. It’ll sure be something to look back on!

I smell a rat

October 13, 2005
Consumers rocked, rates on hold — Interest rates are set to remain on hold as petrol price surges and anxiety about terrorism undermines consumer confidence.

Anyone else see what’s up with this headline [theage)? Now I’m not usually into conspiracy theories, but …? The economy, oil, politics, terrorism. Mmmmm.

I’m back!

October 4, 2005

I’m back from a couple of days on the Murray … which was NOT long enough! Anyone want to join me for breakfast tomorrow to hear all about it? As is customary on Wednesday’s, I’ll be at Moylans (Flinders Lane) from around 7:00 am onwards. Drop me a line.
