Powerbook dilemma
July 29, 2005The ‘new’ old stock G4 “15 inch turned out to be a ’second-hand’ one. Thanks to Danny @ Compters Now in Geelong — he was upfront about it and didn’t want to sell it to me … he’s also worked out a deal so I get a great price on a brand spanker 1.6 GHz! Still kicked me over my budget slightly, but no complaints … the service has been great, and they’re in stock. Off to pick it up now.
Memorable Quotes — Henry David Thoreau
July 27, 2005The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.
A New Arrival
July 27, 2005I’ve bitten the bullet and I’m finally upgrading my computer. I’ve been running an iMac - Indigo (57-19-00) since the Summer of 2000, which features:
I upgraded the RAM and installed OSX a couple of years back and that’s managed to keep things humming along for a while.
Now that I’ll have to hand back my work laptop, I desperately need storage. I’ve got more data on my iPod than I am able to store on the iMac (allowing for the OS)!
So, I just put down my hard-earned for an Aluminum PowerBook G4 15″ 1.5 GHz.
Having a budget of $3k, I’d toyed with the idea of getting a 12″ with 100GB hard drive, but the screen size is just too small for me. I already wear glasses — no point doing further damage! So, I’ve gone with a run-out model, a brand newApril, 2004, 15″ AlBook. It’s clocked at 1.5 GHz and includes 512 MB of RAM and an 80 GB hard drive and a SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW).
The older model is a bit of a compromise, but I can’t wait to pick it up and start using it!
Further thoughts on resigning
July 27, 2005I think that my mixed emotions and feelings of numbness have been based on looking at it from a negative frame of reference. Yes, I’m leaving my current position because I’m tired of:
- office politics
- feeling like its ground-hog day everyday
- being Dilbert
- not changing the world
But, delving deeper into my own psyche and looking at all the positives, it’s not at all about any of that … it’s about the opportunity to do something different and put my hand to new things. To be more entrepreneurial, to learn, to express, to create.
I’ve definitely turned it around and I’m now exited and looking forward not back. The fork in the road is behind me … on with the journey!
It’s over
July 26, 2005I’ve just resigned! Well officially it was yesterday, but that is immaterial. I’ve been with this company for the last four years, and it’s definitely time to move on. I’ve got mixed emotions at the moment … its all a bit surreal. I’d contemplated leaving two years ago after a project gone wrong, but decided to stick it out and make the most of some new opportunities. I did this and I’ve learnt a lot in past two years, not only work-wise, but also about myself and what motivates me and what frustrates me. It’s been part of the journey.
I’m glad to be moving on and looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead, but I it’s just not sinking in at the moment. I’m being pretty philosophical about it all though … it will start to sink in soon enough — I’m finishing up next Friday (5/8).
